The pissing match between Apple and Samsung may not be all sunshine and puppy dogs for the two companies but users stand to gain a lot out of the war as they both vie for our attention. While virtually everything Apple does is shrouded in mystery and hype, Samsung recently held an event to discuss some upcoming technologies and products that will coming down the pipe this year to do battle with the iPhone-maker.
Remember the insanely high-resolution displays that Sammy announced earlier this week? Well, they have to go somewhere and we can expect these displays to be implemented into a tablet sometime in 2012. Samsung is currently seeking companies that have a processor powerful enough to power the 2560 x 1600 resolution displays. Though still in very early stages, we wouldn't be surprised in the least bit if we saw this tablet be Android-powered.
Samsung also may be looking into a virtually untapped market in smartphones: dual-displays. Sure, the Kyocera Echo is currently available for Sprint right now but the handset is downright clunky and ugly. Samsung could produce a dual-screen smartphone with its new foldable AMOLED displays, which could actually make the idea of having two screen on a phone pleasing. While one should never say never about potential Apple products, it just doesn't seem like an area the iPhone-maker would try to jump into anytime soon.
Speaking of displays that allow for folding and bending, Samsung could produce a device that's to be worn on the wrist. Whether this is the reinvention of the slap bracelet, or a bluetooth device similar to the accessory that came with LG Prada 2 is anyone's guess, but it's certainly an interesting idea.
So far, the previous devices and technologies mentioned are places that Apple has yet to get into, and Samsung may be looking to challenge the fruity company by making its own AirPlay-like service. The service would use WiFi-direct and WiFi display technology, and could give users 1080p HD video at 60fps. We'll take it!
Plenty of these upcoming products and services sounds great but some aren't even challenging Apple. Apple's style, eye for detail, and elitism is half of what people buy its products for, no matter what else is available to them, and that's something no company can take away from them.
Whatever happens between the two companies is unsure, but what is sure is that we're going to see some great products from both Apple and Samsung.
